How Sypho works

How Sypho works from quote to completion

Sypho is designed for homeowners who want a clear price, a confirmed start date, and a professional crew without weeks of phone calls and site visits. This page walks through every stage so you know exactly what to expect before you book.

Getting your fixed price online

You start on the Sypho homepage calculator. Choose painting and decorating or plastering and skimming, then describe your property type, rooms, surfaces, and any doors or joinery you want included.

The calculator applies the same pricing engine used when you book. It estimates labour hours from your room dimensions, ceiling height, surface condition, paint grade, and preparation needs, then adds materials allowance and any logistics adjustment for your postcode.

The total you see is the fixed project price for the scope you configured. You do not need a site visit to receive it, and you do not need to wait for a tradesperson to return a manual estimate.

What the calculator takes into account

Residential painting quotes consider wall and ceiling areas, the number of coats implied by your paint grade, door and window counts, and whether you flag areas that need extra preparation. Plastering quotes focus on skim areas and surface condition.

You choose whether you will supply your own paint. The materials line in your quote reflects the grade you select, so the price aligns with the products you plan to buy.

If the real condition on site differs materially from what you described when booking, that is handled later through a formal variation process. Nothing extra is added silently.

  • Room dimensions and ceiling height
  • Surface condition and preparation allowance
  • Paint grade and materials allowance
  • Doors, windows, and joinery where selected
  • Postcode logistics where applicable

Booking and securing your date

When you are ready, you move to the booking page with your quote carried through automatically. You enter contact details, your property address, your preferred start date from the live calendar, and you accept the current terms of service.

You sign in with Google or a secure email link so your booking is tied to your account. Sypho re-prices your scope on the server before creating the booking, so the amount stored matches the calculator rules rather than any edited browser data.

You then pay a twenty five percent deposit by card to confirm the booking. The remaining seventy five percent is not taken in full at this stage.

What happens after you book

Once your deposit is confirmed, you receive booking confirmation by email. You are asked to upload reference photos of the rooms and areas involved so your assigned crew can review the scope before they arrive.

Sypho operations assigns a vetted crew to your project based on availability, skills, and your area. Crew assignment is handled by Sypho rather than you choosing from a list of individual tradespeople.

Your crew receives the assignment and must accept it on the Sypho crew portal before the job becomes fully operational in the app. If a scheduled project requires a pre-work site visit, the crew proposes visit times through the platform and you confirm a slot.

Before work begins on site

Your crew may attend a pre-project site visit for scheduled painting jobs. This is agreed through the job page and is separate from the online quote. It helps align expectations before materials are purchased and work starts.

Crew members upload before-work photos through the app and clock in when they begin on site. For many jobs, escrow authorisation on the remaining balance is requested when work starts, so your card holds the seventy five percent balance ready for capture only after completion.

You can follow progress from your customer job dashboard. If the crew identifies scope differences compared with what was booked, they raise a variation for your approval before additional work proceeds.

During the job

Crew attendance and daily hours are logged in the platform. This creates a clear record of labour on your project without you needing to chase paperwork.

You remain the point of contact for access, materials on site, and day-to-day questions. Sypho handles dispatch, payment mechanics, and operational support if something needs escalation.

If you need to report an urgent site issue, you can do so from your job page so operations can respond quickly.

Completion, review, and final payment

When the crew marks the job complete, you enter a review window. You inspect the finished work and either approve it or raise a concern before the remaining balance is captured.

If you approve, the seventy five percent balance is charged to your card and the booking moves toward settlement. If you do not respond within twenty four hours and no dispute is open, the balance may be captured automatically in line with the payment terms you accepted at booking.

After settlement you may leave a star rating and comment on your experience. This feedback is stored against the booking for operational quality review.

Workmanship guarantee and support

Completed work is covered by a six month workmanship guarantee for genuine workmanship issues reported in that period. Contact Sypho if something needs attention after completion.

Fully insured crews apply to crews on the platform (At least £1M insured (many crews up to £5M)). Identity verification is required before assignment.

If you are unsure whether Sypho fits your property, read the FAQ or contact bookings@sypho.co.uk before you pay a deposit.
